Doug Barron captured his first Ebonite Senior Tour Championship at Longview Lanes in Longview.  In the seventh frame of the position round match, four bowlers were in the hunt for the title. No one of these four could put it away. Qualifying leader, Butch "THE GREAT RIGHT HOPE" Calvert  out averaged the field by five pins over the next bowler, but could only win 3 matches. Calvert started with a four bagger and was in the drivers seat until a split and miss brought him back to the pack. When Barron reached a the tenth frame all he needed was a mark to cinch the title. Doug got a strike for the win and when the dust settled, Calvert and Fleming were in a tie for second, and Bobby Wilkinson had to settle for fourth.
Notes: Carl Hensley won the dog of the week award with 121 low game of the tournament. Perfectos were rolled by John Denton and Bobby Wilkinson. Lionel Jordan won the first SDS (+70) check with -257.
The Qubica Annual Championship which will be held in New Braunfels, September 28-29 is limited to 162. The entry fee is $210, we pay one in two, the top 72 after Saturday will return Sunday for four more games, then the top 24 will bowl twelve matches. There will be $9,000 added to the regular prize fund.
