It did not take long to realize that he was going to be a force to reckon with. Stephens won seven matches and rolled a 299 game in the position round against second place Fred Barnes. Jim Paine qualified in the 16 and final spot. If he had ninety three pins Text Box: higher in the qualifying he would have won the tournament. Paine had only one bad game, a 237.
