Text Box: Text Box: WHAT HAPPENED AT CONROE Fourteen Red Hatters and one guest gathered at Taverna Winery & Restaurant last Saturday for a wine tasting and lunch. It was just great to see everyone all dressed up and ready for a good time. Donna Smith was very elegant; Billie Jean was looking great; Charlene Schneider was smiling; Lavella Roper was there only three days after carpal tunnel surgery and Barbara Redlinger had to cut up her chicken (aren’t friends great); in return, Lavella helped Barbara watch out for red lights; Alene Hensley gave us an update on our walking marathon – she and CeCe are in a hot competition to see who can out-walk each other; Debbie Ellison was hatless, but she had a special dispensation from the Queen; CeCe was not late – she was EARLY(maybe it’s all that walking); Freda Cockrell was looking fantastic – how does she do it – she walks A LOT; Peggy introduced her special guest, Jeannine Stone (Old Baby); Nanci Johnson was swiping menus for our scrapbook; Pat Paine invited everyone to Copperfield (see info below); and Gayle Currie was snapping pictures – uh oh! The “tasting” was a lot of fun and I think most of us agreed that the first white wine was the best – at $42 a bottle it should have been. Not only did it taste good, but it was very inspirational – Peggy demonstrated her “Paris Hilton walk” and I believe the sommelier offered her the rest of the bottle in appreciation of her performance. Gayle Currie gave us a lesson in the proper way to “taste” wine. It’s all in the “swizzle” which I never did get right after repeated attempts. Alene graciously drank all the wine that Nanci didn’t like. Old Baby explained how she got her nickname and told us a couple of things we did not know about Peggy. After the “tasting” we all walked carefully to our table for lunch. The food was really good, but the star of the meal was the salad dressing which was absolutely delicious. Nanci Johnson managed to get the recipe and has promised it to me. If anyone would like to have it, let me know and I will share it with you. We gifted our hostess, Barbara Redlinger with a glass and silver cheese tray complete with cheese knife; and Alene Hensley with a photo frame bracelet for putting together our two Walkabouts earlier this year. Thank you, Ellen Wall, for providing these gifts – we missed you. Thank you, Barbara Redlinger, for a great event and for treating everyone to the wine tasting. A good time was had by all! Queenie Jeanne COPPERFIELD IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER and Patricia Paine is hosting a luncheon at Hearthstone Country Club on Saturday, August 4, at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $20 and you need to RSVP to me no later than Tuesday, July 31. Mail your checks to Pat at 8806 Arbor Wood Drive, Houston, TX, 77040. This has become an annual event and everyone looks forward to our “private room” and Chef Rufus’s food. Be at the bowling center no later than 11:15 ready to depart for Hearthstone. WE ARE GOING TO HAVE FUN!
