Text Box: Text Box: THEY CAME TO COPPERFIELD ……

Fourteen Red Hatters and one guest did what all little girls and grown up ladies like to do, they played “dress up”!

Patricia Paine hosted her fifth annual luncheon at Hearthstone Country Club where we received the royal treatment. The private room, the beautiful table (thank you, Amber, our event planner) the outstanding food (thank you, Chef Rufus), and the impeccable service (thank you, Geraldo, for wearing your tux) all combined to make this a memorable event. We are so sorry for those of you who missed it, because those who were there had a wonderful time.

Pat displayed group photos of all our previous Copperfield events, and she also brought and displayed her mother-in-law’s (Viola Long) fabulous hat collection. Most of these hats were more than fifty years old. After lunch many of us, your Queenie included, couldn’t resist trying on the hats and modeling them. Alene Hensley, Gayle Currie, Pat Paine, Nanci Johnson and new member, Pam Griffith, managed to look absolutely elegant as they modeled hat after hat. Be sure to check the SASBA Red Hat website for pictures. Our Ms. Brooks had to leave early or she would have been holding center stage. And speaking of Peggy, she wore the most elegant outfit designed and made by her mother – we got photos of that too.

“What if and if I could” was the name of the game and it was a riot – a big THANK YOU to Gayle Currie who organized the game. It was so much fun; we will have to play that one again – maybe at Christmas. Peggy and Jan are working together to organize our Christmas Party.

Alene didn’t have all the mileage reports (please be prompt ladies) so she couldn’t give us an update on our Walking Marathon, but she said the numbers she did have were looking impressive. Keep walking ladies – the winners will be awarded prizes at our annual Christmas Party.

We were pleased to welcome our newest member, Pam Griffith, at our luncheon. Pam is a vibrant, fun-to-be with gal, who is going to add a lot of sparkle to our group. Pam is from Houston and she is a Pinkie. If you weren’t at Copperfield to meet her, make it a point to do so next time you see her at a tournament or Red Hat event.

Lisa Farrell who was a charter member, but just attended her very first event, brought her cute, sixteen-year old daughter, Kelsey with her. Kelsey said she is now not afraid to get old – I think that was a compliment. Now that Lisa has experienced her first Red Hat Event (and had a good time, I think), we expect to see her at future events.

Barbara Redlinger was there, looking great after surgery; Jan Colaluca had an injured arm and a broken toe, but she looked beautiful and she was a great navigator; Freda Cockrell was there wearing a dress I want, Charleen Schneider and Billie Jean Workman were enjoying visiting; and Sue Ellison was a little late, but she caught up quickly and we were all so glad to see her.

We gave our hostess a beautiful, crystal vase to thank her for hosting a fabulous event (thank you Ellen Wall – we missed you).

If anyone wants to host an event in September, October or November, let me know. Otherwise, our next event will be on Friday, December 14, somewhere in the Plano area. Stay tuned for details.
