SASBA RED HATTERS CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS IN PLANO
The SASBA Red Hatters celebrated Christmas in fine style last Friday at Plano Super Bowl. Sixteen Red Hatters and two Pinkies braved the wind, rain and traffic to celebrate our sixth annual Christmas get-together. Our hostesses, Jan Colaluca and Peggy Brooks, just outdid themselves. The food, the decorations – it was all top drawer!
Unfortunately, because of traffic some of our ladies were late arriving – Pinkies, Debbie and Lisa, arrived late, together, and CeCe set an all-time late arrival record. Patricia Paine’s chariot had a blowout and Kathy King and Helen Freehauf had to pick her up and bring her to the ball, but everyone finally arrived safely and we partied.
The elegantly decorated tables, Christmas music, and candles set the mood for delicious food catered by Into My Garden Tea Room. The potato soup alone was worth the price of the meal. Some of us had second helpings! And as if this wasn’t enough, our hostesses provided favors too – Peggy, a precious Christmas ornament for each of us, and Jan, a pretty red bowl of yummy candy that some ate immediately, I might add. We presented each of our hostesses with a small gift of appreciation, but our deepest appreciation comes from our hearts. Thank your, ladies!
Our sommelier for the evening was none other than Chris Johnson, Bowling Rookie of the Year. After an evening spent with the SASBA Red Hatters his “rookie” status may be in question, but he did a great job serving the wine.
Hussy in Training, Alene Hensley, presented the awards for our walking contest. All team captains (Peggy Brooks, Debbie Ellison, Nanci Johnson, and me) received a certificate and a gift from Alene for their efforts. Those darn Hussies, Captain Peggy Brooks (698.99 miles), Alene Hensley (1,311.067 miles), Charleen Schneider (823.64 miles), and Donna Smith (1079.94 miles) logged a total of 3,913.637 miles and won the first place team award – each member took home a $50 gift certificate. The first place individual winner in the super senior category was Fast Foot Freda Cockrell (she was on my team – The Glitzy Chicks) who logged 1,297.508 miles and also took home a $50 gift certificate. And CeCe was not late when it came to claiming the individual prize in the senior category. CeCe, a member of the Red Hot Ramblers, walked an amazing 1,437.07 miles to take home a $50 gift certificate. Well done ladies! All who participated were winners, even those who did not take home a prize. As a token of our appreciation for all her hard work, we presented a small gift to Alene. Maybe she will share it with hubby, Carl, who was her right-hand man and assistant on this project.
All the pretty packages containing our ornaments looked so beautiful grouped around the three gorgeous Christmas trees that Peggy had decorated. They looked so good there that I almost forgot about our ornament exchange, but someone reminded me and we carried on. Poor Ellen Wall thinks she came all the way from Mississippi to be our official package opener. She said she opened fifteen of the eighteen packages and had them all stolen from her. She did finally get to steal back one of the many ornaments she opened and went home happy. All the ornaments were beautiful and at the end of the game we were all able to thank the person who brought our ornament. A big “thank you” to Lavella Roper who brought mine. Peggy made us play a really hard game of Christmas trivia. I’m still trying to remember all of Santa’s reindeer. Lisa Farrell won the prize and Debbie Ellison and I won very useful consolation prizes. Gayle Currie’s “What If” and “I Would” game was a lot of fun too. But the hit of the evening was the Right, Left, Center Dice Game. I’ve never had so much fun for $3. Charleen Schneider won the jackpot– lucky lady! Helen and Peggy both exhibited unusual dice rolling style – be sure to check out the pictures on the web site. Debbie Ellison, Gayle Currie, Nanci Johnson and Bettie Sands were all taking pictures so there should be plenty of evidence. I guess Helen was on a roll – she won the door prize too. Thanks again to Ellen Wall who donated all our door prizes. If you weren’t there, we missed you and you missed a really good time!
