Text Box: Newman Wins Squeaker In Monticello
Text Box: No one was able to hold onto the lead until Maury Newman became the leader going into the position round at TimberLodge Lanes in Monticello, AR. The lead changed hands after each of the first 7 games with Jim King, Mark Williams, Roger West and Ron Woodruff all failing to stay in first place after leading. In the last game, the quartet of Newman, Mike Fleming, Williams and King all had a shot to win with a big game. Text Box: Early in the game, it looked like Fleming, in 3rd place, might run off another string as he had done several times earlier. However, he lost his carry and Maury, bowling Williams, got a crucial four bagger late in the game to preserve the lead...and the victory. It was Maury’s 11th SASBA title and first as a Super Senior. Mike moved up to 2nd, Williams got 3rd, King 4th, and Randy Summers rounded out Text Box: the top 5.
Thanks to Phil and Vicki Thompson for being great hosts, but this year, Phil was in the hospital and Vicki was by his bedside much of the weekend, so a group of volunteers (Timber Lodge customers) did yeoman’s duty taking care of the center. Hopefully,Phil will be better soon.

Text Box: The “Dog Of The Week” contest was close...with Charlie Pipes edging out Woody Woodcock 135-136. Medlin was seen taking clothing out of the box for the homeless. nny Winstead left a “stone lily”. Fred Weller left back-to-back 1’s. Text Box: Hitzman’s “wheels” came off. Bobby Wilkinson was sighted..striking as usual. Finally we couldn’t let this story end without mentioning the high level of alertness displayed by Jerry Beavers. After game 7 of the 8-game block on Saturday, Jerry was no where to be Text Box: found. After much consternation and searching, his crossing mates discovered that he had put up his equipment, put on his shoes and retired to the “throne room”. He returned in quick fashion for the finale and managed a 213..not bad considering
