Text Box: Wright, Houston, King win titles in San Antonio!
Text Box: In the non-champions tournament, Steve Wright led the qualifying, then had to win the last match vs Joe Vito to garner his 1st SASBA title at Bandera Super Bowl in San Antonio. Roger LeClair went around Joe the last game for 2nd, Gordon Stuntz got 4th and David Gorsch rounded out the top 5. Along with Wright, who was bowling in his 2nd tournament, Randy Burns (1st tourney), Gorsch and Rodney King (2nd) made their first finals.
In the 50-59 Champs tourney title match, Paul Houston started slow, then put together a 6-bagger at the end to overtake qualifying leader Joe LeCroy Text Box: and win his 2nd SASBA title. Rick Minier got 3rd place, Doug Barron won 4th and Jim Stephens got the last check.
In the Super Senior Champs tourney, Jim King started split, split, then came back to defeat 70 yrs young Jim Paine who led the qualifying. Mark Estes was 3rd, Willie Wells got 4th, and Gene Rivers was 5th.
Thanks to Joe Vito and crew for hosting this tournament. This is not an easy tournament format for the house or for the SASBA staff to run. The lane pattern made it harder than normal to get Text Box: to the pocket and carry was not easy. The house staff stated that next time, it would be a little easier to score.
Our next tournament is the Annual Championship in Plano, on Oct 11-12. Instead of the normal two tournament requirement, you are eligible to bowl in this one if you have bowled in one tournament this year...due to the number of cancelled tournaments.
The entry fee is $210 and half the field cashes.
Text Box: Important announcement! You may or may not know that the term “RB” is named after Richard Britton, former SASBA bowler. An RB is when you miss the headpin on the left (For right-handers). Since Richard is no longer bowling and can’t Text Box: defend himself, we felt that this occurrence should be given a new name. Several eligible bowlers were considered, but after a meeting of tournament directors and current and former presidents, the bowler with the best Text Box: qualifications was selected and henceforth, if this happenstance should befall a SASBA tournament bowler and it is deemed noteworthy enough to make the newsletter, it shall be referred to as a “MM”.. And we don’t mean Mike Monticue or Mike Mayer!
