Text Box: CP’s were plentiful (I had 3) and there were countless MM’s.
Text Box: Mike Lynch had a very “tall” ball caddy for the finals. Kenny Winstead was outspared by his partner. Eight Super Seniors Text Box: made the 16 team finals. We had 3 father/son teams with the same name (John Austins, John Wukaschs and Rudy Garcias).

Text Box: Recent Hall of Fame inductee Rick Minier teamed with two-hander Shawn Maldonado to win the member/guest doubles in Beaumont. Mark Williams and David Anthony led the qualifying and most of the finals, but could not avoid a few bad games. Rick and Shawn’s lowest game was 210 and their consistency, combined with winning close matches carried them to the title. Pete McCordic and Eric Traylor bowled great to get 3rd. Willie Wells and Craig Diver got 4th and Gary Pfeil and Derrick Woods rounded out the top 5.
Thanks to Mark & Debbie Williams and crew for doing a great job hosting the tournament. Text Box: The pattern was demanding, but fair left and right.
We had four new members bowl their first tournament and saw some faces we hand's seen in a while.
On a side note, one SASBA member drove all the way to Beaumont before finding out he was ineligible to bowl with his partner because of the new rule prohibiting any two member/guest champions from bowling together. We were not aware of this until early Saturday morning and we had to turn away a very disgruntled member. To avoid this in the future, a complete list of former champions will be posted on the website and entries can be checked as Text Box: they sign up. Hopefully, this won’t happen again.
Our next tournament is in Pasadena, TX on January 17-18 at Lightning Lanes (formerly Diamond Lanes). There are new owners and they are anxious to host their first SASBA tournament. The center has been cleaned up, painted and lanes coated in...in preparation for our arrival. Nothing would make them feel better than a big turnout by SASBA bowlers. There is a Pro-AM scheduled for Friday evening after the sweepers.
