Text Box: Dean Jones, bowling in his 3rd SASBA tournament, qualified 9th, stayed close in the finals by winning his matches and was in 3rd place entering the position round. He was 2 pins behind 68 yrs. Young Leo Plaia and 75 pins behind leader Rick Minier. Rick barely made the cut, then went from 12th to 4th in 4 games. Rick stuffed every shot the last game, but various stone 8s, 7s and solid 10s kept him from stringing any strikes. He ended with a 208. Leo had an open, but entering the 10th could strike out to pass Rick. He nailed the first and left a 10 pin on the 2nd ball. Dean was Text Box: bowling 4th place Kenny Winstead, who also had carry problems. Dean started with a strike, then a spare, and started stringing strikes. Entering the 10th, he needed the first one to insure the win. He struck out...30 in the pit...to shoot 280 and nail down his first SASBA title. Jim Stephens shot big the last game to get 4th, and Mike Kenerson got his first top 5 finish. Yee Ha!
Thanks to the staff at Metro Bowl for doing a great job. The shot was fair and very playable, though carry was tricky at times. Rusty Bethley got the Belle of Baton Rouge Text Box: casino to sponsor the event and was a very gracious host, opening his pro shop and providing snack trays for SASBA bowlers.
Our next tournament is the member/member doubles in Duncanville at Red Bird Lanes. This tournament is limited to the first 48 paid teams. Entry fee is $320 per team. Don’t get shut out!
