Text Box: and David Manning both left lilies. It was great to see Ed Case again...all the way from the Land of Enchantment.
Text Box: Gordon and his partner missed everything but their turn in the finals. Avant was throwin’ it good again. The “All-Text Box: Sultan” team had it going...for a while. Paul Houston was tellin’ fish stories. Cousin Rodney didn’t like it. Steve Sherrell Text Box: Jim’s Notes
Text Box: Qualifying leaders Rudy Garcia and Ron Boroff slipped as low as 4th place during the finals of the member/member doubles at Red Bird Lanes in Duncanville, but battled back and entering the title game, trailed Joe LeCroy and Tam Wasson by only 43 pins. An early open by both teams kept the match even, but Rudy and Ron started striking and ran off a five bagger, while Tam and Joe could only muster a late turkey. Ron got the first one in the 10th, forcing Joe to get two more to make Ron strike in the 11th. A 4 pin stopped their run and Ron had won his first SASBA title and Text Box: Rudy his 4th.
Thanks to Jeff, Billy, Lois and Jeffrey Cathey and crew for hosting our tournament. The Shot was on the dry side and carry was tricky, but it was nice to go to a center that loved hosting tournaments.
The “all preacher” team of Rick Talley and Phil Bailey got 3rd place and Gary Pfeil and Bob McGregor got 4th. Mike Holland and Jim Stephens rounded out the top 5. The only 300 was a Baker perfecto in the position round by Mark Estes and Paul McCordic. Robert Dunaway made his first finals with Jerry Beavers.
Text Box: Our next tournament is in two weeks at Lone Star Lanes in Sherman, TX. They have a new lane machine and more A/C and are eager to host another SASBA tournament. The following week, we will be at All Star Lanes in Shreveport, LA. Line up your partners now and let’s go see Claude Thomas. He just had cataract surgery and is excited about being able to see his mark again.
