Text Box: Text Box: George Vaughn left the lily! Jerry Moon bowled great! 25 balls and bags were given as prizes to the 7th thru 11th place teams. Peggy Text Box: Brooks showed up to announce the teams’ lane assignments for one game. It was the highlight of the tournament.

Text Box: After tying for 1st place in the Saturday qualifying, Ted Schneider, Marcel Duvall, Dave Person and Chuck Schwakhofer found out Sunday morning after their “A” player, Tam Wasson, fell ill overnight and could not bowl on Sunday. The last few times this has happened, the SASBA rule has been to carry the absent bowler’s full average, regardless of whether it is a high average or low average. It was felt that a –10 pins, as in most leagues, or a 200 blind (as previously used) would not be fair to the other bowlers on his/her team, since the teams were formed based on all five bowler’s average and the remaining four had no choice who they bowled Text Box: with. A 200 blind for a missing 180 average wouldn’t be fair to everyone else. It was predetermined that if they made the stair step final, the four would have to bowl the Baker
rolloff by themselves.
So, the remaining four “Grumbling Grinches” went about their business in workmanlike manner staying near the top all day before qualifying 5th. In the rolloff, they got clutch strike after clutch strike and ran the table, dispatching all four teams who qualified ahead of them and still had their “A” bowler intact.
The controversy surrounding the missing bowler and carrying his Text Box: average should not overshadow the tremendous effort by these four guys who won! They could have viewed Tam’s absence as a letdown and gave up, but they viewed it a challenge and an opportunity and rose to the occasion. Congratulations Marcel, Dave and Chuck on your first SASBA title and to Ted on you third title and first in eleven years.
Our	next tournament is a member/guest doubles in Beaumont. The house pattern will be used and scoring should be higher than last year. The 2nd weekend in January, we’ll be at USA Bowl in Dallas for a regular singles.
