Text Box: Sweeper Winners
Text Box: George Pappas took the lead early in qualifying and then gradually pulled away from the field and cruised to victory at Spin-A-Pin Lanes in Springfield, TN. 2003 Rookie of the Year Gordon Stuntz, used a 279 final game to jump over Phil Thompson, who finished third and hometown hero Jim Kruse, who nailed down 4th place. Jim King rounded out the top five.
Thanks to Keith Schultz and staff for working hard to make this tournament a success. The lane condition was different from pair to pair, but fair overall. Even the lefties had to make small moves on each pair as they moved. George handled the adjustments better than anyone. Maybe that’s why he’s a PBA and ABC Hall of Famer.
Dave Miller (McMinville, TN) used a big block Sunday morning to make his first finals and Bill Throneberry (Bowling Green, KY) made the finals in his first SASBA tournament. We had several first-time bowlers, who all seemed to have a good time. 300s were shot by Pappas, Mark Text Box: Huckelberry and Phil Thompson. Rick and Marta took pictures for the pro-am. Ben Edwards made the finals with his left arm in a cast (slowed him down). Seagraves was seen explaining the difference between ugly and butt-ugly. Hal Foster hit a rare daily double. He got “Dog of the Week” Saturday with a nice 136 and returned Sunday to get the high Sunday block with a 941. Judge Transou made seven spares….in one game!
Our next tournament is in Fort Smith, AR in three weeks, then we will be in Baton Rouge, LA for a member/guest doubles the next weekend. Line up your partners now! If you need one, call me.
I want to say a word about handling adversity and inappropriate behavior. Most of the time, our guys and gals are the best behaved bunch of bowlers I’ve ever been associated with, the PBA included. However, sometimes a player loses it a little and goes off, embarrassing himself, SASBA and the sport of bowling in general. When this happens in front of us or in front of our wives and girlfriends, its shameful Text Box: Text Box: John Montgomery
