Wally beat Tracy... by one pin!!
Text Box: Rick Talley wins 9th SASBA Title!
Text Box: Sweeper Winners
Text Box: Rick Talley (Enid,Ok) survived extremely tough conditions and a hard-charging Jerry Swank to win his 9th SASBA title overall and first in the South Central Division. Entering the final game, Rick only need to stay with 65 pins of Jerry to clinch the title, but Rick had run out of oil and was playing farther left than the Tulsa lefty, who had found a shot and was closing ground fast. Rick started with a split, then doubled, but chopped a 3-6 while Jerry was starting turkey, spare, spare, turkey. Rick had another open, a few spares and spared again in the 9th. Jerry got a strike in the 9th and could shut Rick out with two in the 10th. He laced a great shot and left a high flush, stone 10 pin. A spare and 7 count meant Rick had to have a mark with good count. He made what seemed to be a great shot, but it crossed over for a solid Brooklyn strike, finishing with a 180 and giving him the victory by 5 pins. Whew! What a finish!
Thanks to Tad Person and staff for being gracious hosts. Their stripping machine had a few problems and the lane machine broke down Sun. morning, forcing all 47 remaining bowlers to bowl on one side of the house. Due to this extra Text Box: wear and tear, the lanes got uglier in the finals. Our guys took it in stride for the most part. I guess we’ve been down enough roads to expect just about anything. Thanks to all for their patience and understanding. Tad and staff tried hard and want us back next year.
Craig Slocum got 3rd again in another fine tournament, Horace Childress was 4th and Bruce Forsland rounded out the top 5. Ed Vowell had a target on his back in the finals.
DeWayne and Jim Lee are still looking for their wheels. We will be in New Orleans May 22-23, then in June 26-27 we will be back in Memphis for the four man team tournament. Remember, each team must be comprised of one Super Senior member, one Senior member, one lady (any age), and one guest (any age). We will bowl six games Saturday and six games Sunday with individual match play points as well as team points. Every game is a position round. The finals on Sunday is a stairstep, Baker-style. Lots of fun. Bernie Carlisle, Mark Huckelberry, Rich Goodrich and Pam Vickery are defending champions. The Tulsa Firecracker is in July. A flyer is Text Box: Text Box: DeWayne Thompson
