Text Box: Tommy Crouch shot a lackluster opening block, then got hot to qualify 8th. In the finals, he stayed hot while everyone else but qualifying leader, Dale Dumbleton, was struggling and he quickly surged into 2nd place. Entering the final game, he trailed Dale by 30 pins, so he only needed to win the match to nab the championship. An early washout and a Dumbleton double put him in the hole, but Tommy rallied to strike out from the 8th for a 211. Dale was on a strike in the 9th, but needed the first in the 10th to win. He got it a little wide and left the 3 pin, giving Tommy the title.
The scoring was high in the qualifying rounds as the field averaged 211, the finalists 228 and it took +237 to make the cut. After running the lanes before the finals, the scores plummeted, as the finalists averaged less than 212. Jim King eked out 3rd over Bernie Carlisle and Chuck Maher, who tied for 4th. Steve Thompson and Chuck Souzer were back in the finals after a long absence. Bill White Text Box: bowled great to tie for the last spot, only to lose the tie-breaker to “The Dude”, John Denton. Gene Bergeaux left the lily and Mark Huckelberry and Jimmy Graham shared “Dog of the Week” with a brilliant 136.
At the seafood buffet in the Boomtown Casino, they serve crawfish in a big dory-like boat. After our 2nd trip there, they are re-christening the boat “The Randy Summers”. Dave Lundgren set a new all-time personal record converting 19 of 20 7-pins. Gillane’s wheels came off Saturday, but he found them in time to get a Sunday check.
Our next tournament is in Bartlett, TN the last weekend of June. The format is a four person mixed team tournament, 6 games Saturday and 6 games Sunday. Each team must have 2 Seniors (at least 1 Super Senior), a lady and a guest. The lady and guest can be any age. It is match play (individual and team points) and each game is a position round. There is a Baker-style stairstep final on Sunday. Entry Text Box: Text Box: Rick Talley
